The WTA Tour Finals is getting into the climax with eight players concluding their campaigns in Singapore. The tournament is expected to be highly competitive as there are Grand Slam champions and players who are on an impressive run of form in recent times. The eight players competing in the WTA finals will be going into the competition knowing that they have a strong chance of winning the event. The round robin play begins on Saturday.

The field comprises of three players who have been top of the world rankings in this campaign alone. Simona Halep is the reigning number one, but the field also comprises of Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza. Even though the duo have not been able to increase their progress and make a significant place for themselves coming into the tour, they cannot be ruled out.

Halep, Pliskova, and Muguruza are expected to be the major competitors for this tournament, as they are the only three players to have made it from last year. Pliskova and Muguruza already won their opening matches, at the time when this was written. Even though they failed to get past the group stages, the trio will be hoping for a much better display this time around. An appearance in the semi-finals may be least expected from them.
Muguruza is clearly one of the top players among the trio, but she has been going through a period of inconsistency. Her risky strategy has also led to her downfall in terms of the big matches. Even though she was disappointing at the French Open, it was followed up with a brilliant Wimbledon. Halep and Pliskova have shown reasonable consistency, but they do have a few flaws in the game.

The tournaments will undoubtedly feature one of the Williams – Venus Williams. The American once again be a crowd favourite and she managed to reach the finals for the first time since 2007. The other Grand Slam winner in the finals would be Jelena Ostapenko, who produced a major shock to win the French Open earlier this season. Her aggressive game has been a key factor behind her success, and she has already been labelled as a dark horse.

Elina Svitolina has been able to pick up five tour titles already. She has struggled when it comes to the Grand Slam tournaments or any of the top event. Meanwhile, Wozniacki comes on the back of a frustrating season and she has been able to make her fifth appearance in the WTA finals.
