Rafael Nadal was able to continue his excellent form by getting a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Fabio Fognini. Nadal is hoping to succeed at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in order to end up as the number one player in the world when it comes to the ATP rankings 2017. As a result of the win over the Italian, Nadal has been paired up alongside Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the tournament. It will be a top clash with Dimitrov hoping to reach the ATP finals next month where he could play alongside Nadal.

After the game, the US Open 2017 winner claimed that he played a good match and certainly deserved to win. He admitted that there were a couple of unforced errors but it was a rather excellent match with very few errors in all. Nadal also remarked that he is delighted to be in the quarter-finals of such a major event. The match witnessed Nadal being dominant from the word go and he was able to establish a 3-0 advantage after losing just six of the service points that made up the first set. The second set was an identical story with Nadal continuing to dominate the game. It was not a surprise that the victory was wrapped up in just over an hour.

The Spaniard has now made it to the quarter-finals for the fourth occasion at the Shanghai Rolex Masters, but he has never won the event. After having previously lost the recent three games against Fognini, there was reason for Nadal to be concerned ahead of this game. Yet, his comprehensive victory means that Nadal has become the first player to reach more than 10,000 points when it comes to the Emirates ATP Race to London. He has now achieved 10,045 points in the rankings. Nadal is on a 14-game winning streak over the last few months. Next match: Nadal vs Dimitrov.

Dimitrov Gets Comfortable Victory over Querrey to Set up Nadal Clash

Grigor Dimitrov was able to strengthen his position for the ATP finals after managing a victory over Sam Querrey in the Shanghai Rolex Masters. As a result, he has been able to reach the quarter-finals of the competition where he would play against the Rafael Nadal. Dimitrov was able to secure his 40th victory as he continues to go through a tremendous 2017. The Bulgarian was able to enjoy a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Querrey, and the match required just over 80 minutes in order to see this outcome. The quarter-final clash with Dimitrov sees the Bulgarian go up against Rafael Nadal, who reached the finals in 2009 and he also comes in as the top seed in the tournament.

After the game, Dimitrov reflected on the victory and said that the overall conditions of the game were quite similar to the victory over Ryan Harrison in the previous round. Dimitrov admitted that Querrey is not an opponent who could be taken lightly, as the American has all the tricks up his sleeve.
Dimitrov was able to move into the fifth spot of the Emirates ATP Race to London and he has now picked up 3455 points. The possibility of catching Dominic Thiem certainly cannot be ruled out with the Austrian only 270 points ahead. Three players have already made it to the ATP finals and they include Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Alexander Zverev. The event will take place at the O2 Arena from November 12-19.

After having come up with a brilliant performance against Querrey, there are reasons for Dimitrov to be able to come up with a shock against Nadal – especially considering that the Spaniard has not been able to win the Shanghai Rolex Masters. Dimitrov was only troubled slightly at the start of the second set, as Querrey was able to open up a 2-0 advantage before Dimitrov came back in stunning fashion.

Del Potro Claims Impressive Win over Zverev to Reach Shanghai Quarter-Finals

Juan Martin del Potro was able to produce a spectacular display of power and technique in order to reach the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. The Argentine, who came in as the 16th seed in the tournament, was able to get a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Alexander Zverev. After having made it to the ATP finals as the third player behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Zverev was attracting a lot of attention. However, del Potro was able to produce a stunning game as he managed to hit 22 aces in the game. As a result of this victory, del Potro was able to improve his record in 2017 against the top 10 players of the ATP rankings to 4-9.

The Argentine will be looking to go the distance in terms of the Shanghai Rolex Masters after having recently suffered a loss against Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2013 event. His victory over Zverev sees him up against Viktor Troicki. The Serbian was able to get past John Isner in a 6-4, 7-6(4). This game witnessed Troicki coming up with no less than 30 winners and committing just four unforced errors in the game. As a result, he has been able to reach the first ever quarter-final appearance at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

After the game, del Potro claimed that he is now looking to get a consistent run going and start to appear in around 20 tournaments each year. If he manages to keep this run going, the 29-year-old is confident that he will be able to mix it up with the top boys. Even though Zverev was able to start in an aggressive fashion and get a 3-0 advantage, del Potro came up with some stunning moves once he started establishing and settling into the game. The match was over in just under two hours.

Roger Federer will meet Richard Gasquet in the last quarterfinal of the draw.
